Christel Baillie’s background is that of a violinist, trained in Vienna and working with chamber orchestras in London. Since moving with her husband cellist Alexander Baillie to Germany her interests have been transferred to the mysteries and techniques of portrait painting. In addition to being self taught she has attended classes with Hephzibah Rendle-Short at the ‘Slade’ in London and with American painter Robert Liberace at the Flemish Academy in Brugge. In her portrait painting she is currently looking for a poetic, dance like manner of using the brush stroke, a ‘painterly’ way of painting.
